The island of Sant'Antioco has two major towns the first, its namesake, is reached by an extensive bridge that links it with the mainland near Iglesias. The second Calasetta is in the north west and has regular ferries for the nearby island of San Pietro. Sant' Antioco town was originally known as Sulcis (now adopted as the name for the south western province of Sardinia) and has numerous historical sites including the Chiesa di Sant'Antioco (built on the site of Punic and subsequent Christian catacombs) and the nearby Museo Archeologico. It has a broad port area and an extensive "centro storico". There are numerous stunning beaches around the island including Maladroxia.

Calasetta (Isola di Sant'Antioco) has an attractive port area and is a pretty town with plenty of cafes bars and restaurants (good seafood) and as you would expect churches and a nice piazza in the centre popular with families in the evening. At the top of Calasetta is the "Torre" erected in the eighteenth century, just prior to the establishment of the town. It has a commanding position and views back over the town and coastline on the other side. Beaches in the area include the "Sottotorre", "Grande" and the "Salina". Nuraghic sites can be found in the surrounding area. It is also from here that the ferries leave for Isola San Pietro.
